If it weren’t for my incredible daughters, I don’t know how I would have made it through that time in my life.

But I did. I regained my confidence and rebuilt my life, as a single mom with two young ones. A couple of years later, I met an incredible man and in the next few years, we had built an amazing life together with our two families. We had a successful business and were ready to grow and expand internationally. It was such an exciting time to be on top of the world with such a bright future ahead of us.

Then I was arrested. My life changed forever.

It was shocking. At first I thought it had to be some sort of mistake. I was completely lost and felt powerless as I sank deeper and deeper into a legal nightmare…and into my despair. Those feelings of betrayal and devastation came back in full force as I struggled to grasp that I was paying the price for believing in my first husband.

Going from a successful business woman and devoted mother, to an inmate and treated as a criminal was a huge loss of identity. The two worlds didn’t belong together and I kept wondering “How did I get lost in this mess?”

Life was never the same again. I was forced to figure out ways to survive horrible conditions and circumstances. Being judged so harshly by everyone—because let’s face it, everyone assumes the worst if you’ve been arrested and are sitting in jail!—was really hard.

But by far, the hardest part of all was being separated from my family, being totally alone, on different continents…for almost FOUR years!

During that time, I did everything I could to stay strong, positive, and to get through the ordeal. It seemed like it would never end!

What I discovered were ways to connect to that inner core strength and courage that we all have within us. Even though my physical body might be behind bars, I discovered that my heart and mind could be free!

Every day, I held on to my vision of my life as I wanted it to be. And even though I got knocked down over and over, I found incredible ways to lift myself up and stay positive, despite what was going on around me!
